Now that we’re finally in June and the weather is warming up for us at the Lodge, I thought I’d share 5 easy hikes that are great for kids (and those quite not adjusted to the altitude).
Hike 1 – Swan Mountain
This hike is located on Swan Mountain Road. Park in the lot and you can hike in either direction overlooking lake Dillon the entire way. This hike is the flattest of the hikes in the high country and takes 15 roughly minutes, provided you don’t stop for a picnic at the provided picnic tables.
Amazing views, but can get crowded.
Hike 2 – Barton Creek Loop
This is a wonderful hike that does have some elevation gain, but is fun because of the views. It also follows a closed logging road, so you can hike side by side. Located on Barton road at mile marker 1, there’s no parking on the street but there is a lot.
This hike starts by going up hill slightly to a large clearing with amazing 360 degree views. At the top it turns into a single track and starts back down through the forest and follows Barton Creek back to the parking lot.
This hike takes roughly 2 hours, but if you just walk to the view and turn around will take you about 20 minutes.
Hike 3 – Sawmill Lake
This is a very flat and easy hike. Starting at the BOEC National Forest parking lot, you will follow a wide trail to the lake and continue on a wide path around the lake.
Located in the town of Breckenridge, make sure to bring your paddle board or fishing pole. All in all, this location is super fun.
Hike 4 – Peak 7 Flume
This hike is located at the parking lot for the Breckenridge Nordic Center. In fact, from the parking lot you can hear the rush of water from Barton Creek.
Cross the hand-made bridge over the waterfall and continue south. In the past, this flume channeled water to a hydraulic mine in Cucumber Gulch.
This is a very flat, short hike with lots of wildflowers. In my opinion, a must-see.
Hike 5 – Honky Dory
This hike follows the bike path from Summit High School to the Honky Dory day lot.
Normally, the bike path can be loud because of highway traffic, but this section is a very quiet hike along Lake Dillon on a wide paved path. It will take you to a wonderful sandy beach on lake Dillon with amazing views.
If you have any questions regarding your next event at the lodge, please let us know.
We look forward to seeing you and your friends for your next event.
