At High Country Lodge, our commitment to excellence means a lot more to me than just putting those words on a website.
To me, it means answering the phone in person. It means listening carefully and understanding what the guest is really saying—not just hearing the words they use. It means providing a clean, thoughtful experience from the first conversation to the moment you leave.
When you book your wedding or event at High Country Lodge, I take a personal interest in it. I want to understand what you are trying to accomplish, what is important to you, and what you are really trying to say.
I am not interested in collecting your email address so I can send you a whole bunch of generic information and hope something sticks.
Commitment to excellence is a way of life. You truly have to put yourself in the shoes of your guest to understand what they are asking for and what they expect.
I have been doing this for more than 35 years, owning both a catering business and a lodging business. These things have become natural traits for me over the years. But honestly, it is also in my best interest to exceed your expectations.
It is very simple.
I want a very happy guest.
Yes, we have some rules and policies. But they are very few and very reasonable, and they are there for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests and their guests.
There are a lot of companies out there that say they are committed to excellence. Vrbo, in particular, uses that kind of language.
But there is a big difference between saying you are committed to excellence and actually understanding what excellence means.
You can’t be committed to excellence if you don’t know what excellent really is.
Why I wrote this today
My recent experiences with Vrbo have been extremely frustrating and upsetting. It has made me think a lot about the difference between what a company says about customer service and what a customer actually experiences.
At High Country Lodge, I still believe in the old-fashioned way of doing business: talk to the owner, listen to your guests, understand what they need, and take responsibility for making their experience exceptional.
So, if you are considering High Country Lodge for your wedding, family gathering, or special event, I encourage you to book directly with the owner whenever possible.
You’ll get me—not a computer.
