Most Scenic/Iconic Breckenridge Photo Opportunities

Whether Breckenridge’s rich mining history strikes your fancy or it’s the stunning natural scenery, here are our picks for the best spots to photograph (and be photographed) in and around Breckenridge.

Iconic Breckenridge SignHigh Line Railroad Park
Home to one of the few remaining narrow-gauge locomotives that once braved treacherous mountain passes, this park also boasts the iconic “BRECKENRIDGE” sign.

Alice Milne Historic Park in BreckenridgeAlice G. Milne Memorial Park
Alice Milne donated her historic home and the park surrounding it to the Town of Breckenridge with the stipulation that it remain a museum accessible to the public. The Breckenridge Heritage Alliance is carrying on her wish and working to preserve it. A proposal is in the works to restore this unique gem and it’s surroundings. If you’re lucky, you might meet the resident fox who resides “in” one of the historic buildings in this park.

When the light hits it just right in winter, this in-town location offers a stunning historic focal point with the mountain trails in the background.

High Street (summer only)
From High Street and Lincoln or High Street and Washington, steep but short trails offer majestic views of the town and ski resort. Benches provide a quiet place to take in the scenery.

Wedged between trees and an old cabin, this bright orange VW has been a Ridge Street icon for years and years and is a popular spot for wedding and engagement photos.

Isak the Troll in Breckenridge Isak the Troll
Isak Heartstone is a 15-foot tall wooden troll sculpture located on a trail just off the southeast corner of the Stephen C. West Ice Arena parking lot, next to the Illinois Gulch Trailhead. Originally built as part of the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts, Isak was created by the Danish artist Thomas Dambo, who is known worldwide for bringing awareness to recycling and upcycling by building great things out of trash.

Top of Boreas Pass
A railroad track until 1938, it features aspen tunnels and rocky passages year-round. Fall is simply spectacular and in the winter, the road is closed but a quick 10-minute walk takes you to the best vistas of Breckenridge Ski Resort.

A no-brainer for winter sports enthusiasts, the top of the Imperial SuperChair reaches 12,840 feet.

Sapphire point Lake dillon Sapphire Point
Located between Keystone and Breckenridge on Swan Mountain Road, this overlook overs a stunning view of Lake Dillon. It has 3 or more photo ops and is a great short, flat trail that anyone could easily do. Note: this location is extremely popular and often booked for weddings on weekends.

With more than 26 miles of shoreline and encompassing around 3,233 surface acres of water, Lake Dillon is iconic Summit County. The Denver Water Board voted to build a dam in the Rockies to secure water for the Front Range in the late 1950s. The Old Town of Dillon actually sits at the bottom of Lake Dillon, so there really is an underwater ghost town in Summit County.

Loveland Pass
High atop the Continental Divide is Loveland Pass. About 45 minutes from Breckenridge, it features high vistas, alpine lakes, wildflowers in the summer and almost year-round snow on the peaks.

Patrick and Petra were outstanding hosts of their beautiful lodge. We had a large group of college friends on a 30 year reunion. Patrick and Petra gave us outstanding service coupled with privacy. The Prime Rib dinner was delicious. They even provided group transport to and from Peak 7 lifts. Outstanding! Can’t wait to visit again.

I brought our family of 27 for a most fabulous week ever. Annual family vacations for 10 years now presents challenges to do better then the year before. Everyone agrees that High Country Lodge is now in "First Place" as the best vacation ever. Patrick and Petra are fabulous hosts, and the Lodge is perfect for large family gatherings. We will definitely return, and highly recommend to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

Patrick and Petra bent over backwards to see that our family of 23 had the time of your lives. Their lodge was spacious and the views were beautiful. They served in whatever capacity we asked them to both before and during our stay. We feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to stay at High Country Lodge!

Our family’s stay at High Country Lodge was perfect in every way. Patrick and Petra were so hospitable and personable. They prepared excellent food for our family of 23. Before arrival, Patrick was very easy to communicate with and a helpful trip planner. We also used him for transportation to and from the ski slopes daily. Patrick and Petra were extremely patient with our excited and boisterous family. The lodge itself is so homey and a comfortable place to spend the evening after a long day of skiing. The numerous bedrooms and bathrooms were perfect for our family to spread out in. If there was anything we needed during our stay, Patrick and Petra were on in. I believe this lodge was the perfect place for our family to vacation and if we are ever in Breckenridge again we will absolutely stay here!

Recently, we hosted a very meaningful wedding at High Country Lodge. In attendance were multi-generations including seven grandparents over 80 years old. We were grateful for Patrick's suggestion to rent oxygen machines. The Lodge, Patrick and his family met and exceeded our expectations. He allowed us to tour the lodge several weeks ahead, communicated well and assisted us with whatever we needed. Patrick accommodated our meal situation by preparing our appetizers and dinner for the wedding reception to perfection! Additionally, having a spacious kitchen with two refrigerators and a large serving buffet, allowed us to accommodate a bit of home cooking by the guests along with take-out options from the area. HCL is extremely spacious with comfortable rooms, (including both private and bunk rooms) many bathrooms and numerous seating areas for quiet reading of conversation. The tables are large for group meals, conversation, and games. From the lodge and deck we saw fox and moose visit the yard. The snow capped continental divide with sun rising and setting and storms rolling in and over the mountains was a highlight for all. On the cool days we enjoyed the fireplace and hot tub. The basement rec room was the perfect place for the bachelor/bachelorette gathering. Additionally, the deck provided an ideal setting for the wedding. The pine arch set with florals and greenery was an added bonus. Our guests continue to remember and be extremely grateful for the quiet yet conversation filled weekend we had celebrating the wedding of our bride & groom. What a joy to visit with and learn from the multi-generations in attendance from around our great nation following the trials of 2020.We left our time at HCL with full hearts and gratitude for Patrick and his family!!
